To celebrate National Lipstick day, I wanted to share my top tips and tricks for keeping your lips in perfect condition. When your lips are cared for your makeup looks amazing.
Preparation
Preparation keeps your lips smooth and moisturised. It will help stop your lipstick catching in dry areas. Gently buff over the lips with a lip scrub. Exfoliating the lips will help them to look plump and remove dead flaky skin.
You could mix a small amount of sugar with your favourite balm. There are some beautiful lip scrubs and if you prefer something fruity then try project lip buff. Gently rub on your lips once a week to prevent build up of a cracked appearance. Avoid using a wipe to remove, most contain alcohol that will end up drying your lips.
Switch to a flannel, yes a flannel! Soft and sustainable, flannels will remove the product and leave your lips soft and smooth. Simply scrub your lips using a warm flannel to gently slough away dead skin and excess product build up. This will create a flawless finish. After apply your favourite balm. Just a light coat.
Lining your Lips
To create longevity use your liner all over your lips prior to applying your lipstick. Use a sharp pencil and use feather strokes rather than a straight line. My top tip here is to use a liner that is the same shade as your natural lip colour. If your lipstick fades. You won’t be left with a tell tale line on the outer edge of your lips.
Lipliner is great for creating an even lip shape. Again using the same shade as your lip colour to give a natural effect. Trace just outside your lip line to enhance the upper or lower lip and the cupids bow.
Lipstick
Apply your lipstick over the top. You can blot to remove excess lipstick or layer up to create colour depth. If you want your lipstick to be the stand out feature of your overall makeup look. Think about your lip colour first before applying any other makeup. Doing this will will help you choose if you want to play the rest of your look up or down. If your favourite are nudes then you may opt for heavier eye make-up. If a bold colour us your thing such as reds, then you may play down your eye makeup to make your lips the feature.
